HIMAfrica is the ministry of Jeff and Lou Ann Hawkins partnered with Hope Builders Ministry in Zambia. Jeff is the country coordinator for the indigenous ministry in Zambia. He works with 10 district leaders, 100 hub leaders and over 1000 indigenous pastors. These men are missionary pastors planting churches and making disciples in their home country.
Zambia is a large diverse country. It is the size of Texas, that is half the size of Europe and would cover the Southeastern part of the United States. It is the home of 13 million souls speaking over 70 different languages. By God’s grace English is the official language used in government and schools. This bridges the Gospel to the many different language groups. Most Africans are multilingual speaking 4 and more languages fluently.
The GOAL and MISSION of the ministry is to “saturate Zambia with bible believing and teaching churches with trained pastors.”
This is the attitude that wants to fulfill the Great Commission to make disciples BY MAKING DISCIPLES.
Our focus is disciple making. The Matthew 28 mission statement is “make disciples” by going, baptizing and teaching, to the ends of the earth to the end of time. The ministry method God has given us to effectively obey this mandate is the HUB model of church planting and pastoral training who plant churches and train other pastors.
The HUB Model
“HUB” church that becomes the “bible school” led by an indigenous African pastor that will be instrumental in planting up to 40 new churches and training up to 40 new pastors over the course of 7 years.
The Hub concept forms the basis upon which our entire Ministry operates as we serve rural communities in Africa. A Hub Leader establishes contacts in the surrounding villages and establishes Discipleship groups that will grow into village churches as Bible classes are set up to train Disciple-Makers who reach out to their community.
The Hub Leader is a trained pastor who “duplicates” himself in the leaders identified to head the churches that are planted in the village.
The training process consists of regular classroom teaching and an apprenticeship style, hands-on, in service mentoring to ensure that the
pastors-in-training are able to practically and effectively lead their churches. The curriculum used to train the Pastors runs over a period of
In this manner a Hub grows from the Hub Church to 40 churches planted in villages within walking distance of the Hub Church. On average each will Hub grow to serve between 4,000 and 10,000 members, depending upon the demography, over the seven year period that we take the three phases of leaders through the training program.
A Hub can be sponsored for $300 through all the phases described above.
A Hub Pastor can be sponsored for $55 per month.
HUB churches all over Zambia and Africa. HBM/HIMAfrica work alongside
other Christian ministries and pastors in Africa to do this. In
partnership with these ministries to date the Lord has planted over 4500
churches in Africa in a little over 10 years. Over 1500 churches have
been planted in Zambia alone. Zambia has 10 HUB Districts
overseeing 100 Hubs in varying degrees of development. These Hub
churches work across denominational barriers. There are over 1000
pastors in Zambia in Bible training using the Calvary Academics
curriculum. Calvary Academics is accredited through the International Association for Continuing Education and Training.
who have a heart to be “disciple makers.” Hub Pastors are men who are
not about themselves but about obeying the mandate of Jesus Christ to
“make disciples.” Jesus said, “I will build MY church…” Like Paul we
help them to build upon the foundation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We
are looking for men who will submit themselves to being trained in the
Word of God and use the HUB model to plant churches and disciple other
pastors to do the same.
